Beaufort West · Great Karoo
Boran cattle, bred on the open Karoo veld.
A registered stud breeding hardy, fertile, even-tempered Boran - the cattle that thrive where others struggle. Genetics rooted in East Africa, proven on African soil.
The Stud
The right cattle for a hard, beautiful country.
Botterkloof Borane runs on the dolerite koppies and sweet grass of the Great Karoo - a landscape that rewards efficiency and punishes excess. We breed Boran because they do what we ask of them: walk far, calve easily, raise heavy weaners, and hold condition through a dry season.
Every animal in the herd is performance-recorded and registered with the Boran Cattle Breeders' Society of South Africa. We select for fertility first, then frame, function and that famously calm temperament.

Heritage
From the Borana of southern Ethiopia to the Karoo.
The Boran was shaped over millennia by the pastoralist peoples of East Africa, then refined into a modern beef breed in Kenya. We carry that lineage forward, blending imported Kenyan and Zambian genetics with cattle proven in South African conditions.
